Common reasons photos are rejected

  • The image is not exactly 630 × 810 pixels. Portals often check the pixel size automatically.
  • The background is not solid white. Light grey or off-white walls usually need the background replaced.
  • Your face is too small. The Embassy of India guidance asks for the face to fill 80–85% of the frame, from the top of the hair to the chin.
  • The file is not saved as a JPG.
  • The photo was taken too close or at an angle. The guidance suggests having someone photograph you from about 1.5 metres away, looking straight at the lens.
